It wasn’t until I slowed down that I was able to catch my breath and move at a pace that allowed me to thrive instead of just survive.

As women, we often find ourselves working tirelessly and being stretched in multiple directions to show up for others while putting our own needs at the bottom of our to-do list.

"Black women are more likely than any other racial and ethnic groups to die from cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, lupus, and several cancers.” (Boston University)

"Young workers face the highest burnout rates, with 54% of Gen Zers and 52% of Millennials facing burnout." (Becker's Healthcare)

As a result, I started Slower Pace Embrace to disrupt the cycle of neglecting our well-being and moving at a pace that doesn’t honor our humanity. Through my speaking and wellness services, women are equipped with practices and tools to create space in their lives to slow down and prioritize their holistic well-being. They are supported in cultivating a self-care practice that is tailored to their own unique needs and healing.

I mistakenly put my value in the titles that I wore and what I could produce opposed to who I was at my core.

Born and raised in Detroit, I created Slower Pace Embrace because I know all too well what it feels like to be burnt out, stressed out and unfulfilled. During multiple periods in my life, I overworked myself trying to please everyone while carrying the weight of all of the demands placed on me and struggled to say that disappointing word no one wants to hear: “NO.”

I vividly remember sitting in my cubicle with my shoulders slouched over answering the phone with a fake smile to disguise the frustration of feeling unfulfilled. On the job, I had an ever-growing to-do list that was as long as a CVS receipt. Off the job, I felt as if I was being stretched like Play-Doh in multiple directions because I was struggling to show up for my family and friends.

It wasn’t until one of my former colleagues shared with me the advice that changed my life, “You have to slow down to speed up.” At that moment, I didn’t realize how fast I was moving and what my personal to-do list so desperately needed: self-care.

Through attending workshops and enrolling into multiple programs, I was able to immerse myself into all things self-care. However, I hadn't realized what it meant to truly slow down and tend to my holistic well-being until the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prioritizing my own holistic well-being has helped me to live a more meaningful life with the desire to share my journey and lessons with others.

SLOWER PACE EMBRACE

What is possible when we are able to resist rushing through life with a sense of urgency and move at a slower pace?

Slower Pace Embrace support busy professional women in slowing down to prioritize their holistic well-being and rediscover what brings them joy through our wellness services.

Simultaneously, I am also on a mission to provide Black women and mothers in Detroit and the surrounding metro area with equitable opportunities to care for their holistic well-being and improve health outcomes through accessing our wellness services.

I am a certified breathwork facilitator, holistic wellness coach and inspirational speaker on a mission to support women in slowing down to live more intentional, joyful and fulfilling lives.

Slower Pace Embrace Manifesto

I believe it is revolutionary to slow down in a world that rushes us to speed up and move from a place of urgency.

In a busy and noisy world...

We resist the pressure to rush ourselves into exhaustion or to our graves. We rest in knowing that our value is not reduced to what we produce or how quickly we can get something done.

So, we unapologetically give ourselves permission to move at a pace of grace to honor all of the layers of our well-being. We recognize when women are able to slow down, we are able to exchange our exhaustion for energy, our confusion for clarity, and our overwhelm for overjoy! From here, we can better pour from our overflow to love and care for our communities.
