Slow down.
These two words are more than just a call to action to shift your pace. They are an invitation to living your most intentional, joyful and fulfilling life.
When we are able to move at a slower pace, a pace that honors our humanity opposed to one that encourages us to operate like machines, our lives change.
Why is this important?
- Because young professionals, especially women are burnt out.
- According to a 2024 article published by Becker’s Healthcare, “Young workers face the highest burnout rates, with 54% of Gen Zers and 52% of Millennials facing burnout.”
- According to new research from the Future Forum taken from 2022-2023, “Nearly half (48%) of 18-29 year olds said they feel drained compared with 40% of their peers aged 30 and up, while women (46%) reported higher levels of burnout than men (37%).
- Because Black women continue to be disproportionately affected by many health conditions, and it’s not a result of “bad genes.” Instead, socioeconomic factors, enviornmental influences, racism and discrimination and individual choices raise the risk of various health conditions.
- According to research from Boston University, “Black women are more likely than any other racial and ethnic groups to die from cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, lupus and several cancers.”
I started Slower Pace Embrace to disrupt the cycle of neglecting our well-being and moving at a frantic pace that doesn’t center our health. Too often, women are expected to be superwomen on and off the job while caring for others, saving the day and doing so with a smile. This leaves many of us burnt out and exhausted after spending so much of our time pouring from an empty cup.
Through Slower Pace Embrace, I want to support busy professional women in slowing down to prioritize their holistic well-being and rediscover what brings them joy. Simultaneously, I am on a mission to provide Black women and mothers in Detroit and the surrounding metro area with equitable opportunities to care for their holistic well-being and improve health outcomes.
My prayer is that Slower Pace Embrace will not only be a teaching fountain for women to support them in filling their own cups, but serving them in a way where they are able to pour from their overflow!
At Slower Pace Embrace, our community embraces the knowing that we hold the keys to our own joy, liberation and fulfilment. When we know who we are, honor our worth and prioritize our needs, we are able to better show up for ourselves and others.
This knowing is also reflected in our Slower Pace Embrace Manifesto, which you can read below.
In a busy and noisy world…
We resist the pressure to rush ourselves into exhaustion or to our graves.
We rest in knowing that our value is not reduced to what we produce or how quickly we can get something done.
So, we unapologetically give ourselves permission to move at a pace of grace to honor all of the layers of our well-being.
We recognize when women are able to slow down, we are able to exchange our exhaustion for energy, our confusion for clarity and our overwhelm for overjoy!
From here, we can better pour from our overflow to love and care for our communities.
